Most people know that sugar is bad for your teeth and overall health. Sugar can lead to tooth decay and also attract the bacteria that cause gum disease. Some people find it easy to avoid sugar by simply staying away from sweets and soda. The truth is, sugar can be found in many different types of foods. Some of them may be obvious, and others not so much.

Dentists claim that many patients tell them they do not consume a lot of sugar but when they name the types of foods they usually eat, they name foods that actually contain a lot of sugar. Fruit, certain types of breads and even some vegetables can contain a lot of sugar. Even foods that are not obviously sweet can still have added sugar.
