Tooth surface loss is a big problem and a new study shows that it could be caused by erosion and abrasion. It can be caused by one condition alone or several conditions combined. It is treated based on the cause. The most common cause for tooth surface loss is acid erosion. Acid is found in sodas, juice and many foods. It can slowly eat away at the enamel of the tooth and eventually the entire tooth surface.
In order to treat the problem, dentists may recommend a diet change and better brushing. They may also apply sealants to teeth to help prevent more erosion and surface loss.
