You may think that dentists are against sugary foods and sweets, but believe it or not, cotton candy was actually invented by a dentist who was craving something sweet and unique. In 1897, Dr. William Morrison teamed up with a Nashville candy maker to create this delicious candy. It took the team a while to get it just right, but once they had mastered the recipe and creation method, they began to market their new treat as “fairy floss.”
Fairy floss was a hit at the 1904 World’s Fair and is now a staple at fairs, carnivals, circuses, concerts and other events. Although cotton candy may have led to several cavities, Dr. Morrison was never regretful of his decision to introduce his sugary string to the world.
