Many people use chewing sticks to help clean their teeth but dentists warn that they may actually be causing more harm than good. Chewing sticks are common in many different cultures and some people use them as alternative to brushing while others simply chew on them to assist in removing food that the toothbrush missed.

Dentists warn that the sticks could wear down the surface of the teeth and make them more likely to suffer decay and other problems. They suggest that people who use dental sticks only do so occasionally and that they look for other tooth cleaning options.
