Do you have a habit of biting your fingernails? Did you know that biting your nails is bad for your teeth and overall health. Your fingernails and hand harbor many different types of germs, bacteria and viruses that you pick up from random surfaces throughout the day. If these germs get in your mouth, you could become ill. If that isn’t reason enough to stop biting your nails, how about the fact that nail biting can lead to other nasty habits, such as teeth grinding?
Many people bite their nails as a way to deal with stressful situations. This is also one of the many reasons people grind their teeth. Grinding your teeth can ruin the enamel and lead to cavities and jaw pain. There are plenty of other ways to deal with stress that are not bad habits that can be hard to break and bad for your health.
