The water surfaces on the great lakes, including Lake Michigan are on the rise. A recent study tested the temperatures of the great lakes and compared them to the temperatures from last year. The study found that the temperatures had increased three degrees. It is not uncommon for temperatures to vary over the years and the rise in temperatures could mean more than improved fishing and more comfortable swimming.

If the temperatures are higher in the summer it can take the water longer to cool down and freeze during the winter. Last winter was particularly cold and many of the great lakes were completely frozen.  The warm waters could end up protecting Michigan from an extremely harsh winter.
