Pregnancy can do a lot to a woman’s body and most women work hard to stay healthy and keep their baby healthy during pregnancy as well. Eating right and staying active are just a few of the things that can lead to a healthy pregnancy and an easy delivery, but dental care is also important.
During pregnancy, the immune system is often weakened. This means pregnant women are more susceptible to infections and disease. Pregnancy gingivitis is common and can cause swelling, inflammation and redness in the gums. Proper dental hygiene can help prevent pregnancy gingivitis, so if you are expecting, be sure to talk to your dentist about what you can do to prevent pregnancy gingivitis and other diseases and dental issues.
