A dental emergency can mean a trip to the ER and although most dental problems are not major, an emergency can be scary and stressful. A recent study shows that dental emergency room visits are continuing to rise. This is a problem because most dental emergencies are preventable.  The reason many people are making these ER visits isn’t because of  an increase in accidents, but a decrease in dental checkups.

“If people see oral health as a more important priority, they could be more likely to take advantage of dental benefits and budget dental expenses,” said Dr. Anthony Kibelbek, a Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) member dentist practicing in Coalport. “There’s no doubt that what we have seen happen with the overall economy and insurance coverage the past 10-15 years has played a part in this situation.”
