Oral piercings are popular, especially with young adults, but dentists warn that these piercings could cause damage to the teeth. Most people with oral piercings will rub them against the teeth and tongues or bite and chew on them. This can become a habit and something they do often and without much thought.

Dentists say that chewing and biting on the jewelry can cause the teeth to chip and break and wear down the enamel, making teeth more prone to decay and other problems. Dentists warn anyone considering a piercing to consider the risks and side effects.
