There has been much debate about whether or not fetal tissue should be used for medical testing and studies and where that fetal tissue should come from. Scientists have been using fetal tissues in their dental and medical studies since the 1930s and it is still used successfully today. Fetal tissue is taken from abortions and miscarriages and is often donated to science by a child’s mother or even the facility that conducts the procedure, with permission from the mother.
Fetal tissue has been used to regenerate organs, determine how a disease attacks the body and learn more about the immune system. It has helped many dentists and doctors find new ways to treat disease and illness. Still, many people argue that it should not be used.
