Summer is here and for many people, nothing is as cooling or refreshing as chomping down on some ice. Most people chew on ice without even thinking about the consequences, but according to dentists, chewing ice could be bad for your teeth. Ice is so hard and cold, that it can actually damage the nerves in your teeth and mouth. Since your warm saliva usually melts the ice before this can happen, most people aren’t affected by it. Dentists warn that anytime you eat a piece of ice, you risk harming your teeth.
Dentists also warn that you could crack your teeth, break your enamel or even cause a filling to fall out by chewing on ice. Instead of eating ice cubes, try crushed ice instead or just enjoy a cold drink.
