Dental care for children has improved a lot in modern times, and many parents make sure that their children brush and keep their teeth and gums healthy from the time they are babies into adulthood. Even though you may help your child care for his teeth, dental problems can still arise. Tooth decay is not uncommon in toddlers and is usually the result of too much sugar in the diet.
Severely decayed teeth may need to be extracted for cosmetic reasons and to avoid pain and other problems. In most cases, a dentist chooses to put a child to sleep with anesthesia before extracting teeth. The question is, is it safe? Should a child’s teeth ever be extracted? Most dentist agree that this procedure should only be done if medically necessary.
