An Important Achievement
Folks in Okemos, Michigan from Boyne City and Bronson voted to choose to continue optimally fluoridating their community water supplies. The Michigan Dental Association applauds the voters for protecting dental health, especially in children. Boyne City and Bronson city commissioners decided last summer to ask the voters to reaffirm the community’s policy on community water fluoridation. They have been adjusting the level of fluoride in community waters since 1967 to reach the ideal levels for dental health, a practice that began 70 years ago in Grand Rapids. The CDC has named the addition of fluoride to drinking water as on the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century. There has been a bombardment of misinformation and scare tactics and voters have a tough time wading through resources to see what the facts are and what fiction about fluoride is.
